This museum, designed by the personal friend of Joan Miró, Josep Lluís Sert, was inaugurated in 1975.

It has one of the best collections of contemporary art in the world, as well as the permanent exhibition of Miró's work.

The museum was extended in 1988 by the architect Jaume Freixa. The building also has rooms devoted to different cultural activities, conferences, debates, meetings, cinema, music, theatre, etc.
