This space was designed by Josep Fontserè in 1883. It was planned as an enclosed space which would produce the appropriate thermal and humidity conditions to introduce tropical plant species.

The Umbernacle continues to perform the same function today and is a must for plant lovers.

A few metres further on, at the end of Passeig dels Til·lers, is the statue of General Juan Prim.
