Built as an Arsenal by Jorge Próspero de Verboom, it then became a royal residence at the end of the 19th century, with Pere Falquès in charge of the appropriate reforms.

It performed its initial function between 1889 and 1895 and its second one between 1904 and 1915, until in 1932 the former Arsenal became the Parliament of Catalonia.
