This park is planted with tree species of the region and with exotic
species (with panels indicating their names). There are also sculptures,
a lake and various ponds and fountains of architectural interest.
The
park also includes cultural institutions such as the Parliament
of Catalonia, three museums and a zoo.
The
various statues in the Park include large sculptures such as the
Mammoth and the Metallic
Cat.
THE
LAKE
The
lake is a charming spot in the park. There is extensive, exotic
vegetation on its shores. You can also hire rowing boats, an ideal
spot for the romantic and for those in love. Just a few metres separate
it from the waterfall.
THE
WATERFALL
This
monumental fountain was designed by Josep Fontseré for the World
Fair in 1888. The Catalan modernist architect Antoni Gaudí (at the
time unknown) worked with him. A giant crab can be seen on this
monument. Its pincers form stairs which allow the visitor to climb
up the triumphal arch, with rear terrace, a peculiar form of classicism,
the top of which is completed by the Quàdriga de l´Aurora (group
of sculptures, forged in iron, an original design of Rossend Nobas).
Between the two accesses, from the water of the lower section to
the arch, there is another sculpture, this time in stone, which
represents Venus on a shell, by Venanci Vallmitjana.
