Undoubtedly
the monument par excellence of the Barcelona Gothic, and the religious
and civil centre of the La Ribera
neighbourhood, converted in the 13th century into the new city of
merchants, shipowners and sailors, it thus became known as the Cathedral
of the sea.
Although
a typically Gothic building, we also find baroque features such
as the main altarpiece.
The
stained glass windows of this basilica, dating from the 15th and
18th centuries, are very famous. The most famous are those of the
Ascension, the Maundy, the Last Judgement, the Coronation of the
Virgin and those in the apse from the 18th century .
