Vía
Laietana was built in 1907 to link the Ensanche with the port area.
It ia a straight road to relieve the labyrinth of streets which
led from Plaza Urquinaona to the port.
The first section to be inaugurated, corresponding to the upper part,
was originally called Carrer de Bilbao. It was adorned by the modernist
Caixa de Pensions building.
