This
park arose from the desire of Eusebi Güell, who commissioned Gaudí
to construct a residential park next to his property, Can Montaner.
The
work, directed by Antoni Gaudí, lasted 4 years, from 1900 to 1904
and the architects F. Berenguer and Josep Maria Jujol worked alongside
the genius from Reus. All of the ornaments of the park, entrances,
fountains, columns, benches, etc. were the work of Gaudí.
The most
outstanding spots of this magnificent park include the Room of a Hundred
Columns, above which is a wonderful wave-shaped viewpoint, the staircase
near the main entrance and the Dragon Fountain. Gaudí lived in one
of the houses of the park before moving to the Sagrada Familia. Inside
the park is the Gaudí Museum, which displays personal articles of
the brilliant architect and evidence of his professional projects.
It
also has a library specialized in Gaudí-related subjects, which
can be consulted by appointment.
